Heartworm

Heartworm is a preventable, but serious and potentially fatal parasite that primarily infects dogs, cats and ferrets. It is transmitted from animal to animal by mosquitoes. Regardless of age, sex or living environment, all of these animals are susceptible. The FDA has several approved heartworm preventives available in a variety of formulations.

The American Heartworm Society recommends year round prevention for your dogs, cats and ferrets as well as regular checkups with your veterinarian. A blood test is required before beginning a prevention program to assess the pet’s current heartworm status. Contact our office to schedule your appointment today.
